The Photographer 

Ron Rising has always enjoyed taking pictures, from his student days when he spent a year in Thailand and traveled around the world. 

Ron's equipment has advanced beyond the first 35mm camera he bought in Hong Kong. But the experience of capturing new scenes with his camera, and then sharing them with others, remains just as exciting and enjoyable--if not more so!

In 1995, Ron expanded his viewing public, up to then comprised of family and friends, by exhibiting and selling his work at a local church bazaar. That was the beginning of "Rising Images", which is now a business that has taken on a life of its own. His work can be found in homes, offices and businesses, and he is receiving more requests for custom work. 

His interest and activity in photography has meshed nicely with Ron's enjoyment of working with computers. This combination has led to the development of other products and services, beyond his initial offering of framed prints and greeting cards. These include glass paperweights, calendars, and giclee-style prints. Ron is also available for doing custom work and consulting in the area of visual arts with individuals, small businesses, and non-profits.

Clients who have used Ron's services and/or displayed his work include: small businesses, professional groups and offices, municipalities, Chambers of Commerce, churches, non-profit organizations, social service agencies, and interior decorators.

Ron's professional life and career, when he's not taking pictures, has been in the area of ministry, counseling and health promotion. Photography has been a creative outlet that has been therapeutic and spiritual for both him and others. The joy in his work comes from capturing with his camera some of the beauty of God's creation, and sharing it with others who can appreciate it.

The Photography

When asked what the focus of his work is, Ron says that he takes pictures of objects and scenes that interest him and that are pleasing to his eye and spirit. He takes mostly landscapes and seascapes, both from around his native New England as well as from his travels to other places around the world.

These include such places as: Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons, the California coast, Florida beaches, Cape Cod, Maine lighthouses, an Alaskan lake, a Vancouver rain forest, the Australian coast, and more...

More recently, Ron has experimented with nature photography, especially birds and flowers. A red-tailed hawk in flight was a special thrill! But just as exciting was the experience of capturing on film some Tiffany windows in a rural Connecticut church.

Digital photography has opened up new areas for Ron's work, including, most recently, the offering of giclee-style prints.
